Travel writing and photography is a passion developed as the editor and art director of Just for Canadian Doctors magazine, as well as its sister publication Just for Canadian Dentists. Barb is the creative force behind this series of successful national magazines. As travel-and-lifestyle magazines for a high-end, frequent-traveller readership, their pages cover a range of travel-related topics, from sailing through Patagonia and around Cape Horn to experiencing a Saskatchewan Roughriders game in Regina—plus, food and drink, hot products and go-to gadgets and gear, arts and culture, must-visit museums and festivals… Barb writes and photographs regularly for both mags, as well as planning, coordinating, assigning and designing all editorial (see JFCD magazines).
Barb also freelances and writes for a variety of print publications, including Western Living magazine (for which she is a contributing editor), Vancouver, WestJet, onBoard, Mercedes-Benz, Wine Enthusiast, Private Clubs, Western Living CONDO and BCAA magazines, to name a few. Check out her latest published work here. She’s also been a contributor to online magazine BCLiving.ca, contributing articles that range from home profiles and local shopping spots to travel stories near and far.
She’s served as Vice-chair of the Travel Media Association of Canada‘s BC Board, helping organize and coordinate TMAC events. She’s on the Editors Council of the Society of American Travel Writers, attending annual SATW meetings, conferences and winning awards (Canadian Chapter). As a North American Travel Journalists Association member, Barb has won recognition in NATJA’s annual awards since she joined.
Barb was a finalist in the 2016 Explore Canada Awards of Excellence. And she’s won gold, silver, bronze and been a finalist in the NATJA awards for her photography, including multiple golds. Hello Barbara, I tried to attach 1 of your 1st photos here, but doesn’t work. Shows Vaslav, Wendy, & Stanya next to the Cessna 172 that I was checking out before flying all of you around N. Van back in 1983. How is everyone?
Are your parents still living in Ottawa?
I remember when you, ~10 years old then, called your Dad a ‘sex maniac’ because he wanted to go to Wreck Beach @ Uni of B.C. = unofficial nude beach!
How nice to hear from you! I need to update my site (and I have not been on here in a LONG time) … you can reach me at email@example.com. I will pass on your words to my parents and sister… we were remembering flying in the plane with you long ago, just recently… I’ve been trying to keep a daily “memory” going during this crazy time to keep everyone’s spirits up and connect… I’m in Vancouver… my parents and sister are in Edmonton. I can put you in touch with my dad, if you’d like! Hope you and your family is well. :) best, barb
Nice article in montecristo: caption for flowers should read ‘phacelia’. Bees do love it!
